Armar-3

ARMAR II is an improved version of the previous humanoid robot ARMAR I and is a part of the ongoing research of Forschungszentrum informatik at Karlsruhe University. ARMAR II was developed in 2002 with the goal of creating robots that can adapt, react and interact just like humans.

The arms of ARMAR II were enhanced to look and work more closely like that of humans through its workspace, segment lengths and axis of rotation. The new arms have 7 Degrees of Freedom and a length of 65 centimeters each.

This new humanoid robot looks similar to the previous ARMAR I (except for its green-colored torso and hat). This time, it has built-in stereo cameras in its head. Unlike other robots where knowledge is preprogrammed, ARMAR II can learn and improve its grasping abilities via touch of the object on its own.
